Soccer’s Popularity Scoring in Balitmore

The business community in Baltimore, including businessman Frank Storch, is watching those who are watching the World Cup, which is in the middle of its high-excitement meet in Brazil.

For Baltimoreans, and others in the US, the highlight of the games so far was the much-discussed USA versus Ghana event, which ended well for the red, white and blue, who won 2-1, on June 16.

As far as popularity, Baltimore is one of the best markets for the games in the USA, taking sixth place among US viewing populations for that USA-Ghana game. Ahead of Baltimore were Washington, DC; NYC; Hartford-New Haven; Boston; and Columbus, Ohio.

Over the years Baltimore has become quite taken with soccer- bringing sell-out crowds to M&T Bank Stadium for a number of international exhibitions during the course of the last several years.

ESPN saw an average of 11.1 million viewers across the USA for that pivotal USA-Ghana game.
